Theatreroo has staged at multiple Brisbane pub venues over the years. From the iconic West End pub, The Montague Hotel to Paddington’s The Fritzenburger. Now Theatreroo reside in their very own Pub Theatre venue The Basement in Bowen Hills.
The Basement’s location previously home to the popular Jazz Bar is located underneath the well-known Twelfth Night Theatre in Brisbane.
Our venue was chosen for its intimate size. Theatreroo aim to create a cosy environment where every attendee gets to be immersed into the theatre production. On occasions the actors may be one metre from the Audience in an un-intimidating way. Theatreroo deliver an exciting new concept, and is a must do in Brisbane.
The term ‘Pub Theatre’ evolved from a concept by Theatreroo creator Clarry Evans. Theatreroo actually hold the Australian rights to the term! It is a new style of Theatre, where the audience is encouraged to sit back and relax with a drink in a more casual environment to your standard Theatre venue. This is a unique and unbeatable live performance experience. Think Cabaret but Theatre. Think a new twist on the traditional Speakeasy.
Theatreroo use only the best cast and crew. Many of our actors have Queensland Theatre Company experience and our Lighting and Sound Technicians come from renowned theatre companies. Our Resident Director Denny Lawrence was former Head of Department at New York Universities Film and TV Department. He has produced and directed a number of popular television shows such as A Country Practice and The Bill.
We may be smaller in size, but we are still as mighty as your large theatre venue!
“We are attempting to show the very best of theatre, using top contributors, in a super relaxed environment” - Clarry Evans
